AAWAZ Womens Group held a very successful Health and Wellbeing event at the Access point on the 24th June with over 40 ladies attending the event.
The new Mayor of Hyndburn Munsif Dad attended to the event and was invited to present certificates to ladies who had successfully completed a basic IT course. Three of which did particularly well having attained 100% attendance.
The Mayor said “How it is important for women to participate in the community and learn new skills”.
This Health and Wellbeing event was part of the Positive Living Project. This project provides awareness around mental health issues, providing information around ways of maintaining and improving your health and wellbeing through sessions, practical positive activities and personal development.
The event provided ladies with information which AAWAZ hopes they will find helpful and useful. They were two guest speakers. Zarqa Riaz from the Hyndburn Healthy Lifestyles team discussed the importance of a healthy diet and participating in regular exercise. The ladies where amazed by a realistic model of 5lbs of human fat. Zarqa informed the ladies about the Activity for Life programme which provides free women only exercise classes, to ladies who have medical issues. That can be accessed by asking their GP to be referred to them to the program.
The second guest speaker Zubeda Baji explained to the ladies about how they may mange the stress they may feel during the Ramadan period and the importance of maintaining a healthy diet. Zubeda Baji gave tips about how to take care of yourself if you have diabetes or other medical problems when fasting. That this is a special month during which people should be thinking about others, the poor and needy and to give to charity.
The event was enjoyed by all and AAWAZ would like to thank all who participated
