As part of the Environment Hyndburn Project AAWAZ was invited to visit Huncoat House to look at the community garden which has been created. The ladies were shown around the garden by Elaine Embley, Community Investment Officer for Hyndburn Homes.
The community garden was created earlier this year with the help of local volunteers and young people undergoing apprenticeship training.
The Community Garden provides a safe and secure open space for locals and community groups to grow their own vegetables and herbs, a place to socialise and carry out group activities.
The ladies and staff enjoyed their visit and a few ladies sampled some of the fresh herbs.
Manal said “it reminded me of my child hood when the family grew many of our own herbs or would go to the countryside where they grew in the wild”.
The visit has inspired the ladies to look at growing different plants and AAWAZ will now try to grow some vegetables in the back yard of the centre.
