AAWAZ is working with Spring Hill Primary School and Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School.
The pilot (2011) highlighted many issues that will help us to plan a comprehensive project plan over a longer term to work effectively with South Asian parents in Accrington and Great Harwood.
It is clear that many parents from the South Asian communities find it difficult or do not fully understand the need to engage with their child’s school.
Many parents are keen but their ability to communicate in the English language is limited. AAWAZ continues to work with parents, supported through private donations and the good will of the charity’s volunteers.
AAWAZ would like to work with any school who is willing to invest in this important area of work. School will benefit from our experience, knowledge and expertise which will result in increased and effective engagement with the parents.
AAWAZ model of engagement with parents uses a grassroots approach, where they can identify the key issues, the challenges from parents’ perspective. The approach is to work with parents to encourage them to realise the importance of education of their children in return for the long term benefit to:
• The Children themselves
• To the Family
• To the Community
• To the wider Society
AAWAZ use a family model including the grandparents and other key figures working through our informal networks and with “Key” people in the community we can:
• Generate interest
• Support and involve
We welcome partnerships, working with Agencies and Community groups.
